An industrial visit was organized by the Department of Civil Engineering on 25th January 2022. A team of 40 students from 2nd and 3rd year Civil Engineering under the supervision of Prof. Vidyadhar N. and Prof. Chidanand Naik visited various manufacturing units of construction materials. The main objective was to create awareness among Civil Engineering students about various construction materials and their manufacturing processes. Firstly, students visited Akshay Concrete Products at Bangarmakki, Bhatkal, where young entrepreneur Mr. Ashwin Kumar Devadig gave a live demonstration on the manufacturing process of Paver and Concrete blocks. Later, the team visited Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) plant situated at Bangarmakki. Various components and different stages of preparation of Hot Mix in the plant were observed. Students were taken to Kamath Clay Industry situated at Venkatapur, Bhatkal. A step-by-step explanation on the manufacturing of burnt clay brick was given by Mr. Akshay Kamath, Proprietor of Kamath Clay Products. Students also visited Tengingundi beach to witness breakwater (spur) where the laying of tetrapods was under process. Finally, the team visited the Tetrapod RMC plant and gathered useful information about the concrete batching and mixing process. The entire visit was well planned and organized successfully by the Department of Civil engineering under the guidance of Head of the Department Dr. Shridhar Yallurkar in coordination with Principal Dr. M.A. Bhavikatti
