Biographies of former principals

Dr. Handadi Udaya Prasanna

Term of office: 2012-2015

Education: B.Tech. in Metallurgical Engineering from University of Mysore; M.E. in Mechanical Engineering from Indian Institute of Science; Ph.D. in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering from National Institute of Technology Karnataka

Professional Background: From 1982 to 1986, Dr. Prasanna worked at Larsen & Toubro where he was Supervising Engineer till 1984 and served as Deputy Manager in 1985. From 1986 to 1990, he worked as a Methods and Development Engineer for Nitin Castings. From 1987 to 1990, he worked as Senior Engineer of Quality Assurance for Khimline Pumps (now Sulzer Pumps).

In 1990, he joined Anjuman Institute of Technology and Management as a Lecturer of Mechanical Engineering. He was promoted as an Assistant Professor in 1993, as Associate Professor in 2001 and Professor in 2005. He also served as Head of Mechanical Engineering during the periods 1995 to 1998 and 2002 to 2012. Before becoming principal in the year 2012, he was the Vice Principal for 3 years from 2009.

After retiring from the post of Principal, he is currently leading research at AITM as Director of Research.

Dr. R. Noor Ahmed

Term of office: 2007-2012

Education: B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from Bangalore University; M.E. in Metal Casting and Ph.D. in Composites from Visvesvaraya Technological University

Professional Background: Dr. Noor Ahmed started his work career as a Trainee Engineer in Structure division at National Aerospace Laboratories in 1985. After that, in December same year, he joined as Lecturer of Mechanical Engineering in Ghousia College of Engineering. He was promoted as Head and Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering in 1990. He ended his long career of 12 years at Ghousia College of Engineering in 1997 and joined as a Professor of Mechanical Engineering in HKBK College of Engineering the same year. He worked at HKBK for 10 years until he joined as Principal at AITM in 2007. During this time, he was also a visiting Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Ghousia College of Engineering from 2004 to 2005.

He is currently serving as Principal at Secab Institute of Engineering and Technology.

Dr. C. H. Abdul Bukhari

Term of office: 1997-2007

Education: B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from University of Kerala; M.E. in Civil Engineering from Indian Institute of Science; Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Madras

Professional Background: Dr. Bukhari served various colleges affiliated to University of Kerala as Lecturer of Civil Engineering from 1962 to 1971. Before this, he also served as a Junior Engineer for Kerala Public Works Department for four months in 1962. From 1971 to 1979, he served as Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering at various colleges affiliated to University of Kerala and University of Calicut. From 1979 to 1981, he worked as a Lecturer of Civil Engineering at University of Zambia. From 1981 to 1990, he worked as Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering at Al-Fateh University (now University of Tripoli). After coming back to India in 1991, he then taught at various Government Engineering Colleges in Kerala as Professor of Civil Engineering till 1996. At the heights of his illustrious career, in 1992 he also became the Director of Kerala Science and Technology Museum and served till 1996. After 10 years when he left AITM in 2007, he became the longest serving Principal of AITM.

He is currently serving as the Director of Ilahia College of Engineering and Technology.

Prof. Himayat Ullah Beg

Term of office: 1996-1997

Education: B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from Aligarh Muslim University; M.E. in Advanced Electrical Machines from University of Roorkee (now Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee)

Professional Background: From 1966 to 1976, he taught at Aligarh Muslim University as Lecturer of Electrical Engineering. From 1976 to 1984, he taught at College of Technology Maalla as Lecturer. From 1984 to 1987, he taught at Maalla Technical Institute as a Lecturer.

Dr. A. Mahabub Basha

Term of office: 1995-1996

Education: B.E. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and M.Sc. in Power Systems from University of Madras; Ph.D. in Modern Power System Protection from University of Roorkee (now Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee)

Professional Background: Before joining AITM, he has over two decades of teaching experience at Calicut Regional Engineering College (now National Institute of Technology Calicut) where he was also involved in research for over a decade.
